Before you start
- Fix insulation before chasing 'more cold'.
- Opening windows and roof hatch count as ventilation.
- Calculate 12 V cooler electrical draw.
- External shade sometimes beats another gadget.
Cross-ventilation
Low inlet and high outlet move air without fans. Side window plus fan hatch is a common Belcampers combo. Integrated mesh keeps Costa Brava insects out. Alexis wires 12 V fans in the electrical phase. Cooking ventilation cuts humidity that becomes winter condensation. We do not promise polar cool from one small grille.
Insulation and sun
Good insulation delays heat gain; reflective blinds on windows help parked. White roof paint is rare on vans, but light interior and airflow help. Orientation and side awning sometimes beat extra hardware. Honest climate control starts by not making a greenhouse with no exit path for air.
12 V options
Roof fans, extractors, and sometimes 12 V mini splits draw continuous W = V × A—they hit the battery. We size them on the electrical sheet. Household 230 V AC needs strong inverter or hook-up, not magic off-grid. Sleeping in Girona parking in August is a different plan than 1500 m altitude.
Workshop integration
Fans mount with hatch or dedicated hole, sealing included. Cable and fuse in panel. We coordinate with the heating guide to avoid duplicate holes. Belcampers installs—we do not sell USB fans with nowhere to fit them.
Common mistakes
- Powerful AC hunt with no insulation or ventilation first.
- Cooking on gas with every window shut.
