Roof hatches need roof cutting, perimeter reinforcement, and multi-layer sealing. They may affect homologación by vehicle height—we fit with watertight testing.
Before you start
- Confirm interior headroom with hatch (lift bed, etc.).
- Check position vs ribs and OEM antenna.
- Pick extraction model if you cook inside.
- Plan solar cable route nearby without drilling twice.
Types and placement
Fixed, lifting, or fan hatches change ventilation and lost height. Over the bed gives stargazing but needs a thermal blind. Alexis avoids weak roof zones and coordinates with future solar so useful space is not blocked. On H3 high roofs the hatch is almost mandatory to avoid a dark tunnel feel. We measure on site with laser before ordering.
Cutting and reinforcement
Manufacturer template, paint protection, cut, deburr. Some kits use inner frames for stiffness. Immediate anti-corrosion primer. Fan wiring and switch go before ceiling trim closes. Overhead work with dust extraction in Sant Julià de Ramis. We do not recommend hatches without curved sheet experience.
Sealing and testing
Butyl + compatible adhesive + fasteners in sequence. We check pitch for rear drainage. Hose test and wait if needed before interior panelling. A roof leak destroys insulation in weeks—this guide shares window-level rigour. Inside we integrate fabric or panels without stressing the frame.
Homologación and extras
Roof changes may enter reform depending on vehicle and size. Mechanical ventilation may be required with gas in the same volume—see our gas guide. Homologación is case by case; the website gives general guidance. Hatch and solar panel are planned together for one roof visit.

- Drilling the roof before bed and tall cabinet layout is set.
- Skipping thermal blind and getting winter condensation.
- Installing hatch and solar without sealing order.
